Unrelated Volunteers, also known as Controls, are needed in the Lupus Study!Controls help researchers
  • rule out environmental factors that might trigger lupus
  • conduct comparison studies with participants that have lupus
A Control participant
  • does not have lupus him/herself
  • does not have lupus in his or her family
  • can be a
  • friend, coworker or neighbor of a lupus patient;
  • non-blood-related lupus-family member (i.e., in-law); or
  • someone interested in furthering research
One Control participant is needed for each participant enrolled in the study that has lupus. Control participants are matched as closely as possible to lupus participants according to 4 (four) criteria:
  • Ethnicity
  • Gender
  • State of residence
  • Age within 5 years of lupus patient's age at the time of participation
